Description
ISO and safety standards
This type of marine class cable is usually manufactured according to the following standards:
ISO 6722-1: This standard specifies requirements and test methods for low-voltage cables used in vehicles and similar systems.
ISO 10133: Recreational craft standard for small craft - Direct current (DC) electrical systems. It requires cables to be corrosion resistant (hence tin-plated) and flame retardant.
IEC 60228 (Class 5 or 6): Defines the class of conductor flexibility. Crosseven "ultra-flexible" cables meet a high class of flexibility, which is essential for installation in tight spaces on yachts.
ISO 13297: Small craft - AC systems (when the cable is used as earth ground or in combined systems).
RoHS compliance: Certifies that the materials do not contain hazardous substances (lead, mercury, etc.).
Main advantages in marine environments:
Tinned Copper: Unlike conventional cables, tinning protects copper from the "green corrosion layer" that forms in salty and humid air.
Temperature range: Typically designed to operate from -30°C to +70°C (fixed installation).
Voltage: Designed for operating voltages up to 60V.
